Leading entrepreneurs honoured in Monte Carlo

The award ceremony for this year’s „World Entrepreneur of the Year“ took place in Monte Carlo last weekend. The international jury was made up of businessmen and academics and was led by the renowned Ernst & Young consulting firm. Nominated were businesses from 43 countries. This year’s winner and therefore “World Entrepreneur of the Year 2009″ became Cao Dewang, founder and CEO of Fuyao Glass Industry. Professor Götz W. Werner, founder of the dm-drugstore chain was admitted to the Hall of Fame of the world’s best entrepreneurs. He also represented Germany in this year´s competition.

By means of a first-class presentation Mr. Cao Dewang was able to convince the international jury of his entrepreneurial achievements and received the coveted “World Entrepreneur of the Year 2009″ award. Fuyao Glass Industry was founded by Cao Dewang in 1987 in Fuzhou. Today this company is one of the leading vehicle glass manufacturers in China and supplies to motor vehicle manufacturers around the world. In 1993 the Fuyao group was the first company of its kind to be listed on the stock exchange in Shanghai. The conglomerate employs more than 10,000 people and operates several glass production subsidiaries, e.g. in Shanghai and Beijing as well as modern float glass production sites. Turnover last year amounted to about 600 million Euros. In addition, Cao Dewang is very much committed to social projects in China. For example, he donated more than 15 million Euros to the people affected by the earthquake in Sinchuan.

Germany was represented by Professor Götz W. Werner, founder of the dm drug store chain and „Entrepreneur of the year 2008″ in the category of trade businesses. The dm drug store chain has been operating successfully for more than 35 years and established itself among Germany’s 200 most important businesses in terms of turnover. In the business year 2007/2008 the dm chain generated a turnover of 3.36 billion Euros and employed 19,400 people in 1012 dm stores in the whole of Germany. This was an increase in turnover of 11.4 % last year. Furthermore, dm have established themselves on other European countries as well on markets for drugs, foodstuffs and baby clothes and generated a turnover of 4.7 billion Euros in ten European countries.
