More than 300 million Euros in turnover generated online with flowers

Next Sunday will be Mother’s Day and flower online shops will presumably be very happy about good business given that an ever growing number of people order flowers via their computers. Three million Germans have already at least once ordered flowers online, according to a study by BITKOM. Therefore, BITKOM estimate that annual turnover generated through cut flowers amounts to more than 300 million Euros in Germany.

Total sales for cut flowers amounted to 3.2 billion Euros in 2008, according to data provided by ZMP. On a per capita basis Germans buy flowers to the value of 39 Euros each year. According to estimates, one in ten flowers bunches are currently bought over the internet.

Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day are the most important occasions in order to give flowers as a gift. Some service providers will take orders as late as on Saturday in the morning. Flower bunches will then be delivered by local florists. Service providers sending flowers per post will take orders until Friday by the latest.

By the way, the right of withdrawal is not applicable to cut flowers. Some shops, however, will make a refund, if clients are not satisfied. GERMAN
