Germans buy Christmas presents online in order to avoid stress

One out of seven Germans above the age of 14 want to buy their Christmas presents over the internet. This corresponds to more than 10 million online shoppers. Another 8 million are still pondering such as possibility. These figures were revealed in the course of a joint study by BITKOM and Forsa.

More than two million online purchasers have already bought their Christmas presents for 2008 over the internet, in particular young adults. In the age bracket of between 18 and 44 years 25 percent of people plan to buy presents online or already have ordered them online. On the other hand, just two percent of people older than 60 want to make use of the internet for buying their Christmas presents.

18 percent of men buy their presents online, but only 13% of women.

The reason for buying presents online is that most people want to avoid stress before the Christmas season. Ordering over the internet saves a lot of stress in particular to working and older people. GERMAN
