Internet advertisement market grew strongly at the beginning of 2008

The demand for graphic internet advertising is currently growing enormously. In the first quarter of 2008 turnover increased to 305 million Euros which is 75% more than in the same period in the year 2007. In 2007 the German market for traditional online advertising had already generated 976 million Euros worth of turnover (+103% compared to 2006). This was revealed in a recent study by Thomson Media Control.

Most money is invested into online advertising by the telecommunications and internet economy itself. In this sector companies spent about 77 million Euros in the first quarter 2008, followed by trading and mail order companies which invested 65 million Euros. The media and entertainment businesses (34 million Euros), banks and financial service providers (27 million Euros) as well as tourism and the catering trade (26 million Euros) completed the list of the top 5 in this respect.

“Not just small banners and pop-ups are popular means of advertising”, says Mr. Prof. Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer, chairman of the BITKOM high-tech association by order of whom the above study was conducted. “Many companies also invest in large-surface advertisements and film spots with a high advertising impact.” GERMAN
