Trade balance deficit of the EU amounts to 30.7 billion Euros

According to first estimates by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the EU, in January 2008 the trade deficit of the Eurozone (EZ15) in the trade with non-EU countries amounted to 10.7 billion Euros. The deficit of the EU27, according to estimates, amounted to 30.7 billion Euros after -26.0 billion in January 2007.

In January 2007 the deficit of the EZ15 was -7.3 billion and in December 2007 it reached -4.1 billion. In January this year exports and imports increased by 7.4% each in comparison with December 2007.

In December 2007 the balances for the EU27 had been -17.6 billion after -10.0 billion in December 2006. Exports increased by 6.2% and imports by 4.9% in January this year as compared to December 2007 (in figures adjusted for season). GERMAN
