Turnover in hotel and restaurant industry down by 3.2 percent

According to the Federal Statistical Office, in October 2007 turnover in the German hotel and restaurant industry combined was 0.7% lower in nominal and 3.2% lower in real terms as compared to October last year. In comparison to September this year, turnover fell by 0.9% in nominal and real terms.

Only canteens and caterers which also include the suppliers of airlines generated higher turnover in October 2007 as compared to last year (+5.4% in nominal and +2.5% in real terms). The hotel industry generated a plus of 2.2% in nominal and 0.2% less in real terms as compared to October 2006. In the restaurant industry turnover was down in both nominal and real terms as compared to October last year (-3.9% and -6.7% respectively).

In the period from January to October 2007, turnover generated in the hotel and restaurant industry combined was 0.4% and 2.9% lower in nominal and real terms than in the same period last year. GERMAN
