Producer prices slightly up in June

According to the Federal Statistical Office, the producer price index for industrial goods in June 2007 was 1.7% higher than in June 2006. This rather moderate increase is particularly due to the development in energy prices. Without taking into account the development of energy prices the index would have increased by 2.8%. As compared to May 2007 the index increased moderately by 0.2%.

Energy prices were 1.4% lower in June 2007 than one year before and remained unchanged as compared to May 2007. Prices for mineral oil products fell by 0.8% as compared to June 2006 and increased by 1.7% as compared to May this year. Electricity was 2.4% more expensive in June 2007 than in June 2006 even though special clients were able to obtain it 0.4% cheaper than in June 2006.

As had already been the case in previous months, prices for intermediate inputs increased by 4.9% over a period of one year while prices for food intermediate products increased particularly sharply. GERMAN
