Less overnight stays in May than in April

According to preliminary findings by the Federal Statistical Office there were in total 33.9 million overnight stays in lodging places with more than nine beds and on camping sites in May 2007. As compared to the same month in 2006 this corresponded to an increase of 4%. Compared to April 2007, however, overnight stays fell by 1%.

The number of hotel overnight stays with regard to German guests rose by 4% to 29.1 million as compared to May 2006 and those from foreign guests by 6% to 4.8 million.
Overnight stays in other types of accommodation such as holiday homes, holiday flats, rest homes and on camping sites increased by 11% to 10.1 million. In rehabilitation clinics the number of overnight stays was up by 4% and totaled 3.9 million.

Over the period from January to May 2007 there were in total 124.6 overnight stays which is a 4% increase as compared to the same period in 2006. 105.7 million of these guests came from Germany (+4%) and 18.9 from abroad (+8%). GERMAN
