Consumer prices up by 1.8% in June

As was reported by the Federal Statistical Office the consumer price index for Germany will probably increase by 1.8% in June 2007 as compared to June last year. In May the annual increase had been 1.9%. Compared to May 2007 the index increased by 0.1%.

As was already the case in May the moderate price increase in June can also be explained by the falling or only slightly increasing prices for seasonal foodstuffs.

In some Federal Laender there was a slight increase in energy prices in June 2007. There was also an increase in fuel oil prices in some Laender (between +0.8% and +3.1%). However, prices are still between 5.4% and 12.7% below those of June 2006.

The so-called harmonized consumer price index for Germany will probably rise by 2.0% in June 2007 as compared to June 2006 (in May 2007: +2.0%). Compared to the previous month the index is up by 0.1%.

The final figures for June 2007 will by available from July 16th 2007. GERMAN
