Consumer prices increased considerably in March 2007

In March 2007 consumer prices rose stronger than in previous months. According to the Federal Statistical Office the increase in the period from March 2006 to March 2007 was 1.9%. Compared to January 2007 the difference was +0.3%.

A particularly strong effect on annual inflation in March 2007 had price increases of +3.0% for petrol (standard petrol: +3.3%, four-star petrol: +3.4%, diesel petrol: +0.4%). As compared to the previous month, petrol prices rose by 4.0%. In the other direction developed prices for consumer electronics and computers which fell by 8.5% and 13.1% respectively as compared to March 2006.

The harmonised consumer index for Germany increased by 2.0% for the period from March 2006 to March 2007. Compared to February 2007 it rose by 0.2%. GERMAN
