Key European interest rate unchanged at 3.75%

The European Central Bank has left the key interest unchanged at 3.75 percent. Experts think that the ECB´s economists currently do not dispose of sufficient information in order to change the interest rate on a strategically sound basis.

ECB president Jean-Claude Trichet, however, on a press conference yesterday said: „Today I do not want to say anything which might affect expectations for the month of June.« One cannot help interpreting this phrasing that the ECB is quite likely to raise key interest rates to probably 4.0% in June which is a step anticipated by many experts of ECB policies.
