With a population of 67.5 million people Iran is an interesting market for small and medium-sized entities in spite of the political problems. For this reason it may be worth having a look at the new „country profile of Iran” published by the Federal Statistical Office.
From a demographic point of view there are the same trends in Iran as in Western industrialized countries, i.e. falling birth rates and smaller families and at the same time an increasing average age, even though these trends are not as marked as in Western countries. The Iranian economy is dominated by crude oil and natural gas industries which generate one quarter of Iran´s total gross value added and accounts for 83% of all exports. Germany is by far Iran´s most important trade partner with 13.8% of Iran´s imports being made in Germany.
