Half-year figures on wage settlements published

According to the Federal Statistical Office in the first half of 2006 standard wages increased by between 0.5 and 3.4 percent. These figures include increases agreed upon in new wage settlements as well as increases fixed by already existing agreements which took effect in the first half of 2006.

Compared with the consumer price increase of approx. 2 percent over the same period, the standard wages rose moderately in the eyes of the Federal Statistical Office. Given that collective agreements only seldom apply to the whole of Germany, standard wages vary according to the different regions. More detailed figures can be looked up on the website of the Statistical Office. GERMAN
